The basics
In plain English: Be real, be kind, respect the map, and mind who is in your memories.
MemoryMaps works because people trust it with real moments and real places. A few principles run through everything below:
- Be real. Be yourself, not someone else, and do not try to game or deceive the community.
- Be kind. Treat people the way you would want to be treated on a map of your own life.
- Respect the map. Do not use MemoryMaps to harm, endanger, or mislead anyone.
- Mind who is in your memories.You choose who sees each memory, but never post someone else’s private moments, or their location, without their consent.
These guidelines work alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. When something here is broken, we act on it — see how we enforce these guidelines.
Spam and platform manipulation
In plain English: Keep MemoryMaps genuine: no bots, fake engagement, scams, or bulk spam.
Sharing your own memories is the point. Gaming the app is not. Do not:
- Post repetitive, bulk, or automated content, or run bot accounts.
- Buy, sell, or trade accounts, followers, likes, or engagement.
- Use misleading links, scams, phishing, or fake giveaways.
- Mass-follow, mass-message, or otherwise spam other people.
Harassment and bullying
In plain English: No targeting, threats, or doxxing. You can always block, mute, and report.
Everyone should feel safe here. Do not target anyone with:
- Insults, slurs, threats, or degrading content.
- Repeated unwanted contact after someone has asked you to stop or has blocked you.
- Content meant to shame or humiliate, or to incite others to pile on.
- Sharing someone’s private information or live location to intimidate them (doxxing).
If someone is bothering you, you can block, mute, and report them from their profile or any of their content.
Hate speech
In plain English: No attacks on people for who they are — even when framed as a joke.
There is no place for hate on MemoryMaps. Do not post content that attacks, dehumanizes, threatens, or incites violence or hatred against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, religion, disability, serious disease, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or immigration status. Hateful slurs, symbols, and stereotypes are not welcome, even when framed as a joke.
Violence and graphic content
In plain English: No threats, glorifying violence, gore for shock value, or promoting self-harm.
Do not threaten, glorify, or incite violence, and do not post gratuitously graphic content. That includes:
- Threats or calls for harm against people or groups.
- Content promoting or celebrating violent, extremist, or terrorist acts or the people behind them.
- Graphic depictions of death, serious injury, or cruelty — including toward animals — shared for shock value.
- Content that encourages or instructs self-harm or suicide.

Adult nudity and sexual content
In plain English: MemoryMaps is not for pornography, sexual solicitation, or non-consensual intimate images.
MemoryMaps is not a place for pornography or sexual content. Do not post nudity, sexual acts, or sexually explicit material, and do not use the app to solicit sex. Sharing intimate images of anyone without their consent — including to harass or humiliate them — is never allowed; we remove it and, where required, report it. Some non-sexual nudity, such as art, health, or breastfeeding, may be allowed with clear context.
Child safety
In plain English: Zero tolerance for the sexual abuse or exploitation of minors. Read our full Child Safety Standards.
We have zero tolerance for the sexual abuse or exploitation of minors. Content that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits anyone under 18 is removed, the account is suspended, and apparent child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to the appropriate authorities. You must meet the minimum age in our Terms to use MemoryMaps, and accounts belonging to minors carry extra protections.

Illegal goods and activities
In plain English: Do not use MemoryMaps to commit, promote, or facilitate crimes.
Do not use MemoryMaps to commit or facilitate crimes. That includes:
- Buying, selling, or promoting drugs, weapons, or other regulated or illegal goods.
- Fraud, stolen goods, or counterfeit items.
- Human exploitation or trafficking of any kind.
- Content that instructs others to cause serious harm, or that infringes someone else’s intellectual property.
Impersonation and authenticity
In plain English: Be yourself. Parody is fine when it is clearly labeled and not meant to deceive.
Be yourself. Do not pretend to be another person, brand, or organization in a way meant to deceive, and do not create accounts to evade a block or a prior removal. Parody and fan accounts are welcome when they are clearly labeled and not trying to fool anyone. We may ask you to verify who you are.
Harmful misinformation
In plain English: Do not spread false claims that could cause real-world harm.
Do not share false or misleading information that could cause real-world harm — for example, content that could suppress voting, endanger public health or safety, or manipulate people during a crisis or emergency. Getting something wrong is not a violation; deliberately spreading harmful falsehoods is.
How we enforce these guidelines
In plain English: People review reports and proactively look for violations. If we get it wrong, you can appeal.
We review reported content and proactively look for violations, with people making the final call on what stays and what goes. Depending on what happened and your history, we may:
- Remove the content and let you know why.
- Issue a warning.
- Temporarily limit or suspend your account.
- Permanently remove your account for severe or repeated violations.
